Oh, my goodness, Guster! I have some good memories associated with them- they remind me of college, and of working as a lifeguard at a pool, where we used to play a lot of mix CDs contining Guster, as one did in the early 00s. I also used to put some of their lyrics up as melodramatic AIM away messages in college ("Two Points for Honesty" and "Either Way" are two I remember using). I've seen them twice. Thanks for sharing that playlist- I'm definitely going to be listening to it!

Guster is one of my favorites. Their first four albums were already out by the time I first heard them in college, but I went on to see them a bunch of times in concert. One of the best shows I saw was Guster playing on a Lake Michigan beach in Chicago! Great playlist, btw!

Speaking of fandom: TWIN PEAKS, aaaahhhh!!! We just finished watching the full series: the original two seasons, then "Fire Walk With Me," and two nights ago we watched the last two episodes of "The Return" from 2017. Holy heck. I think I loved it even more this time than when I first watched the reruns on TV when I was in high school.

The closest I got to full-fledged fan status was during the height of my Bob Dylan obsession, also from when I was in high school. Message boards and bootlegs and Ticketmaster, oh my. It kind of petered out by the time I went to college, then was revived a bit when Todd Haynes' movie "I'm Not There" came out, featuring Cate Blanchett as a young Dylan stand-in. 🥵

He still means a lot to me, but it's from a more nostalgic place now. And as with so many fandoms, I have weird feelings about it, because some of his fans are SCARY about him—he just becomes their entire lives. And realizing that the face of your conversation partner—a man who is at least twice your age—has changed completely, his indefatigable zeal lighting his eyes from within as he elaborates on his theory about who "Isis" is and why the song says her wedding date was the fifth day of May...it makes you want to get as far away from that stereotype as possible.
