I'm so glad you recommended "Let Them All Talk." I wasn't overwhelmed by it, but I liked it. I'm also glad you think To the Lighthouse stands up. It is a high-water mark novel for me -- one of the most powerful and moving. I think of it often, though I haven't read it for years.

I felt the same about "Let Them All Talk." I went into it not knowing anything about it so I was really pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be so much about writing and the ethical questions around writing fiction that borrows from others' lives. It's such a fascinating question/situation. And yes, I absolutely recommend reading To the Lighthouse again. I think I may start reading it every decade or so, to see which elements resonate more as I get older.

Another common element of "fun" is money. As prices have risen relentlessly, having less disposable income has really cleared out most of the pastimes that the pandemic hadn't already knocked out of my life. I'm so bored.

NELL! YES! This is a huge part of it. Travel, shows, even all of the money we pay for streaming services and different magazine/newspaper/newsletter subscriptions...it's so draining.
