Early & Alone is a newsletter about the relationships that matter, including the one we have with ourselves.

I’m Jill Gallagher. I’ve been writing online for a long time—this newsletter is sort of like a more polished version of my circa-2002 Livejournal (IYKYK). You’ll find musings on relationships, culture, writing, working, money, and other things through the lens of a 40-something woman trying to navigate the messy middle.

I aim to send out the newsletter once a week, usually on Thursdays. Each issue features a brief essay on a theme as well as a section called Bright Spots, which highlights what’s brightened my corner of the world over the last week. There you’ll find recommendations of products, recipes, writing, and other culture I’m consuming, as well as a good sprinkling of cute animal videos.

If anything I write resonates with you, don’t hesitate to reach out! I respond to every comment and email and I love to hear from you. Reaching and connecting with readers is a huge part of why I write in general, and definitely the biggest reason why I write Early & Alone. Ironically, I want to help others feel less alone. You can also follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Goodreads.
